Hi Larry, I would recommend a vent free gas log set or a vented insert for heat. If your looking for a primary heat source , I would recommend the insert, otherwise the gas logs are designed to be used 4 to 6 hours a day. In any case you will need to measure your fireplace for the recommended spacing necessary for the ventless gas logs or fireplace insert.
