Hi Tom, Vented gas logs are burned with the damper open, and are used primarily for ambience as the heat will escape out the chimney. Ventless gas logs are clean burning and are designed to be used with your damper closed, therefore gaining a lot of heat and heating an area up to 1300 square feet.
